Since its inception in October 2020, Miami-Dade County’s GO Connect has surpassed more than 150,000 rides.
The Uber-like service is seeing around 100 new accounts being created and continues to service roughly 2,500 riders per week.
“Miami-Dade County continues to be impressed with the success of GO Connect as the service surpasses more than 150,000 rides since its inception,” said Carlos Cruz-Casas, chief innovation officer for Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works. “GO Connect is a clear example of how technology and innovation can strengthen the reach of our county’s existing bus and train lines, and open new doors for everyone in our community to get where they need to go.”
When it first launched, GO Connect had an average ridership service of over 5,000 rides monthly. Fast forward to February 2022, ridership numbers grew 30% with an average of 8,000 riders per month. In October 2022, the ridesharing service broke records with its highest weekly ridership of 2,500 rides and serving around 10,000 rides.
GO Connect shuttles nearby users to and from Metrorail and other transit stations and nearby destinations. Rides on the on-demand service can be ordered through the Go Connect app, available on the Apple Store and Google Play. The service is similar to Uber’s UberPool and Lyft’s shared ride options, which require users to share rides with other passengers within specific “geofence” areas and possibly walk to nearby pickup and drop-off points.
In partnership with Via Transportation, the first GO Connect area was in Dadeland. New zones were phased in, adding the West Kendall and Civic Center areas as well as Cutler Bay. Costing $2.25 per ride, the department has also expanded service areas to Douglas Road Metrorail, the University of Miami and Baptist Hospital.
The most popular GO Connect destinations from July to October 2022 included public transit hubs like South Miami-Dade Busway and several Metrorail stations, shopping centers Southland Mall and Dadeland Mall, and local high schools.
“We’re so proud to be a regional leader for interconnected public mobility,” Mr. Cruz-Casas added.
